A P-51C at KSBP

A TP-51C came through town with the 2012 Wings of Freedom Tour.  It made several semi-low passes during the week it was in town (around May 16th).  It was in town with a B-24.  The aircraft were on display and giving rides.  Rides in the B-24 were $325-$400, and rides in the P-51C were $2200 for 1/2 hour and $3200 for a full hour.  Apparently several people did the P-51 rides since it made several low passes during it's 3day stay.  Below is a video of one of the passes.

North American T-28C and PT-27

A T-28 and a Steerman!  They take up a lot of space.  Total human cargo in this picture is 4 souls.  The T-28 is only 17 years newer than the Steerman.  Both are very large aircraft for their number of seats.

Beech Model 17 "Staggerwing" visits KSBP

  One of the classics from the golden age of aviation stopped by earlier this month.  This aircraft was considered to be the premier executive aircraft of its time.  It is often referred to as one of the most beautiful aircraft ever made.

New Resident an R 66

A new turbine Robinson R-66 has made KSBP it's new home.  Looks a lot like the R-44 but a little bigger and sleeker.

C-130 from West Virginia Air Guard visits KSBP

A C-130 did a fly by and landed at KSBP Thursday afternoon this week.  Happened to catch it on my way home.

Relentless NXT Low Pass

I caught Relentless NXT aka: Race 42 doing a low pass at KSBP in September 2009.  This is a beautiful aircraft with an awesome sounding engine.

1929 Travel Air S6000B in Jan 2010 at KSBP

This old guy flew in from Paso Robles for a xpdr cert. Neat old plane. Had a tile bathroom in the back. Apparently this aircraft has been continually registered since new, never derelict.

Ford Tri Motor in 2002 at KSBP

This was the last flight for NC7501V out of KSBP.  Off to new owner.  If anyone knows it's current whereabouts please post a comment.

Mystery Plane at KSBP

Can anyone help me identify this aircraft?  It was flying around the patch a few weeks ago and don't recognize it.  Open cockpit, low wing, slow flyer.  Any help would be appreciated.  Just add a comment.

Boeing 737 lands at KSBP

On a rainy day in January 2009 a chartered B-737 from Alaska Airlines landed at the San Luis Obispo airport (KSBP).  This was the largest aircraft to date to land at KSBP.  There was a large group of people parked in the airport viewing area to watch this event.  Here is the video  I took that the captain of the aircraft commented on.  (includes radio communications).

Gazelle Helicopter Test Flight

This Gazelle was going on a test flight before apparent sale and delivery.  Did a few approaches and a very nice landing.  Enjoy!  (Anybody know what the ABB on the fuselage means?)

Prop strike

Happened to see this around 5pm today. Looks like the nose gear collapsed after landing. Probably no injuries other than the aircraft. I'm sure it'll be back in the air in no time. KSBP has shops for all needed repairs. It's a Lancair Legacy. Will update if I hear more.

Race 41 Low Pass at KSBP

Here's a video of Race 41 doing low pass.  Taken a few weeks ago.  It qualified at Reno Air Races with a speed of 308mph.  It can go much faster...

Race 41 hits 308.998mph in qualifying at Reno Air Races

  Scott Nelson hits 308mph in qualifying the 1st day at Reno Air Races.  Scott is a local pilot and is showing off what the Thunder Mustang Race 41 can do this week at Reno.  The aircraft is for sale.  Maybe a Reno win will increase interest in this pretty airplane.

The 2011 Reno Air Races are Coming

The top picks for Sport Class at the Reno Air Races this year are both from KSBP (San Luis Obispo).  Here's a low pass video I shot awhile back.  Hope to get some more in the coming weeks before the races September 12-18 2011.  Still looking for who will be live streaming some video and audio this year.

Thunder Over The Valley Air Show
